Epic Dasaria

I think epic could be a good idea, but not on a permanent basis.
For example, a player is called upon by their God to attempt a certain task. In doing so the God grants these bonus levels to the player then ports them to the location of their task.
If successful the God is impressed with the player and allows them a wish.
If unsuccesful the God is angered and strikes retribution upon the player.
Granted kind of generic examples, but I hope you get the idea.

I like your idea Gojo, the idea that DM intervention is essential what ever the case. However it will be funny to see a party of 6 doing a DM quest where they are all acting the leader role

In my honest opinion I believe that Epic levels should only and I mean ONLY be given for rewards of great deeds a person does RP wise and if they are a significant player in an Important Event and continues on to be a "role model". I say "Role Model" loosely due to the fact that There are many role-models, but few are GOOD ones that deserve the respect and praise of people. and thats my two cents.

When i said given, i meant given the CHANCE to get the season, if they already have the xp then they season instantly, if they don't then they still have to work to get the Epic season.

I believe Epic levels should be and only be ...a gift of the gods (DMs)
Xp should be gained only through DMs and RPing. I want to see this happen so all the powergamers will be weeded out of Dasaria after seeing that you can't just make an ultimate epic character and bash anything in site....Somebody has said it once....I'll say it again....This game is all about the Roleplaying aspect not the "point, click , kill part of the game". Epic character should be Epic roleplayers... I think Holly's idea for allowing epics to
1. The High Councillor of the Church of Nergal
2. The Brigadier of the Redboots
3. The High Priest of Girru
4. The Council Leader for the Council of Lords.
5. The Thane of Torinvork Hall
6. The Chief Renegade
7. The High Templar of Asher
8. etc, etc...
But only after they have Roleplayed just as much as anyone else....No one makes these characters better than anyone else....they have just established leadership in their particular order...
It's only my opinion

Simply to add my voice to the already veritable choir:
Epic levels DM-assigned only.
However it will be, I'm certain people who got Dasaria this far will come up with a workable solution - my suggestion would fall along the lines of RP-rewards.
Absolutely not attainable through killing monsters or scripted quests - those are too volatile.
If the focus of the server does change to roleplaying, I'm certain we will see more frequently experience gains coming from roleplaying (still waiting for the game where one could develop their character without as much as killing a fly with a swatter
).
I guess another issue is how well the expansion pack will be balanced - just look at current populance of Wizardria.
Uh, I meant Nergalria.

I do not think they should be allowed into the game.
Mainly since they are overpowered in the PnP book, and i doubt were too well made for an online game as we all play in now.
If they were allowed in, i think Gojo has the proper idea, temporary additions to levels for certain quests or DM events.
I wouldnt be me if i didnt add my own two cents, i can see a place for the characters to be given permanent epic levels, but only by the DMs. It controls their addition to the game, as well as a reward for players who are trying to add more than levels to their characters at 20th than standing around doing little to aid anyone.
But i do think those epic levels should only be able to come from ONE Dm. Not that we do not have a great set of DMs on this server, but as they say, "too many cooks ruin the pot." This way, final say comes from the game designers, and will remove nearly all comlaints about why people are getting the epics. ((I know this will not stop all the complaints...but that is the nature of the beast around here im learning.))

I'm personaly on a weird side line here, which ultimatly depends on how the bioware: NWN team impliments the epic levels.
I personaly have played all versions of D&D and Very rarely was an epic level an issue, but then in a computer game thats different.
Heres a basic rundown of D&D and level caps for those that dont know:
Basic Dungeons and Dragons: 36 and Immortals
This is the coloured box sets Red, Blue, Green, Black and Gold boxed sets.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (1st ed): Basically had no cap, though it had an arbitrary level cap of 40, unless you weren't human.
2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: 20
while less if you weren't human.
Dungeons & Dragons (3rd ed/3.0/3.5): 20 levels of any one class.
Basiclly no real cap however you didnt get much from a class after 20 levels in that individual class.
A 2nd and 3rd ed do have epic level guides, though im not familure with them.
It is well known that there are changes comming with the implimentation of SoU (XP1), its likely best to see that first before realy making a decision on XP2, and I reserve my judgement till I see how that works out

Personal views, Epic can add to the world or can take away from it, it all depends on how it is handled. Gut instinct says that if it is used then what must be avoided is the one DM giving it out. That may cause resentment and bad feelings, coupled with th etime inline problem, the DM with that responsibilty will see mostly their timezone, others would be missed who might deserve it as much.
So what do I think, if you want to control it, which seems fair to me, then a panal of DMs should meet, and discuss who they would suggest, then that person should be watched for a few days or weeks, if the quality matches whats expected. Then they give that person the level, however at no time does anyone say who suggested them etc.
This makes it clear that it's from roleplay and not Powergaming, and hopefully removes the resentment problem.

DM makes post about Prestige Class in DM forum saying "Hey, you know this one we've been watching? About time to allow the Prestige Class, yes?"
All DMs have their say before it goes ahead.
Same would apply to Epic Levels- it's not something one DM does. We all have our say, and I believe we can all veto it. Just because one DM gives the news doesn't mean the rest were not involved in the decission...

Let's just clarify something, for my understanding (and I suspect for others too)... When we refer to DM-assigned levels, what we actually mean is that DM's will allow a character to progress to gain an Epic level. They won't simply wave a wand and that character will have a level added to them. Normal progression rules should apply, possibly with DM intervention required (at the technical end) when the character actually levels.
And my 2 cents vote:
- single levels at a time, hold there for a minumum of one month to assess balance and impact.
- DM 'committee' for nomination and discussion of candidates; two weeks later meet again to say yay or nay for each nominee.

I think you guys can handle it, don't you? Personally (and please no-one take offence at this) I've never even seen Jeh on line in the 8 months since I started playing. I don't think he has a stake in this any more, at least not on the day-to-day decision making. *ducks*Gojo Ryu wrote: So Jeh, get your butt back here.![]()

Once the DM's have come to a decision then they could set up a thread with a poll asking us forum user's what we think about the candidate. And epic experience points should only be gained through DM run events which basically means the level up process would be painstakingly slow.
