we are at the point of cival war , and the way you did this with nothing more than a empty bucket full of nothing more than good intentions is priceless

""Create your council. Redboots will still lead the nation until things are in order. ""

So you are saying, that even with a new council you will stand against what the people of Daris strive to achieve.

I didnt think you would give up this seat of power so easilly, and fears are confirmed. You attempt to rule Daris for your own, as a dictatorship, under martial law, even when the people would vote on their own representatives. I dont think it can be made much clearer.

And someone menrtioned doing evil in the name of good is the worst that can be done. I hope the Gods of thePaladins are watching them closely, watching how they treat their flock.

If I were the normal man of Daris, words and deeds of revolution and uprising would be crossing my mind. People with your idea's of government cannot and must not be allowed to perpetrate them.

I will work all I can to form this idea of council that Armitage has pushed forward, that is backed by the people and factions of Dasaria, with their own elected representatives, that will make decisions all the people would then wish to live by.

And I will slay those who work to thwart it, and those who believe they are above or beside it. Let my words be spread, for I will ask people once, are you for the reformation of a representative council, or no. I will strike none first that are for, and I will glady claim those who are against for Nergals armies of undead.

The Council is hardly "kicked out". You make it seem as though we've occupied the town under a military dictatorship, and while it may not be too far off from that, it's hardly such a cold definition as how you describe.

The Council of Lords is still a Dasarian organization, when I spoke to Palequine about this it was my intention to take hold of the running of the nation. We both saw that during the rebuilding process and the re-intergration with the Village, that people were still bickering amongst themselves, thieves were on the rampage, and the rebuilding process has been hampered because of this.

The Council will be handed back the reigns once things settle own, the Redboots will slide back into their normal role as Military and Law Enforcing agency. We've decided to step in, because no one else seems to be doing so.
I know I bloody well wasn't consulted and I sit on the Council... I've met many times with Lord Palequine and he never spoke of this... I would have met with you too Herr Fuehrer, but you could not deem to make yourself available for Council business... Like so many before you who were willing to hold title but not office... You shirk the work you should be doing as a Lord, and then while we wait to hear from you, move to position your corrupt and withered brigade into power... HAh!

Congratulations on bringing civil war upon us... I am a free man and will carry on the fight against this illegal, immoral and contemptable act of treason you bring to the land.

Nob...you are an inneffective leader.

If you command the 'Ling Death Squad in the same manner you perform on the Council of Lords, I can assure you will be such a poor tactician that you will lead your halflings into despair and ruin. You will have, yet again, betrayed those that trusted you to act and speak with wisdom.

That's right, be aware of the Brigade coming to burn your homes and rape your woman. With malice and hated we'll rob the poor of all their gold and and kindly sells the souls of all Dasarians to Varana for a pretty penny.

What does that sound like to you? Not the Brigade I know.

All joking aside, step back and listen to yourself! You make us sound like tryants and madmen!

What have I done that illustrates the opression of the Dasarian people and ill-decision of town management and defense?

The purpose of Martial Law in this decree is to ease the stress from the Council and put the non-stop bickering in its place.

I feel like a magic spell more then a human striving for order. I repeat myself again and again, and yet you don't understand. Rights are not being invaded, your free will isn't being stripped of you.

As for you, Nobby. I didn't need your council on this matter. Shortly after your recent crimes in Daris, I considered you among the problems in this town rather then one who seeks to correct it.

Shame on you. When the King returns, he will reward such actions as the Brigadier has had the balls to decide upon. Do you think it was easy for him to do this? Do any of you know what is truly happening? Are you blind to what Dasaria has become?

CHOOSE!
Yes, we should be ashamed... Ashamed to harbor zealots and hypocrits like yourself... Time and time again you open your pox ridden lips with lies and slander... "The Council is inactive and ineffective...?"

The Guilt there lies with your own peasant wench flesh... yours and that of people like Raef who have held a seat and done nothing. Raeflin does not write his thoughts in the Council Journal, he does not grace us with his presence when we schedule to meet and confer... We have tried to arrange an open audience with the People to hear you all and Raeflin sat quiet, stalling us at every turn.

Time and Time again he places his precious "Brigade" outside of any jurisdiction other than that of his own whims and fancies... He cares not what the Council decides, nor what the citizens decide, because he chooses to remove himself from being subject to any authority but the twisted voices in his head, and the poisonous voices of treason at his ear.

A peasant wench who failed and fled the Council thinks she can speak the will of the King ? Oh, I find you amusing.

There are two visions for Dasaria... The one being presented to us now is that of rule of the sword... a Land where only the chosen may reside in peace... A land where a precious few may sit in self-righteous glory, congratulating themsleves on their goodness, while wiping the blood of slaughtered Dasarians from their blades... Blind to the evil they do in the name of "good", deaf to the words of reason and wisdom.

The other world, the one which I choose to live in... Is a Dasaria made better for finding the common ground, made stronger for embracing the strengths of ALL her people.

This world of mine will would have a Guard that is comprised of Dasarians who can serve the Law justly without regard to race, religion or creed...

This world of mine would strip the Redboots of their failed power of policing the Law... and either see them hung as a failed militant coup or see them seeking redemption at the front lines of the Varana War... Either way the result is the same... a death sentence.

This world of mine would have a court with Magistrates who will hear cases brought before them... The accused would have Counsel, the Sate would have Prosecutors, and in a better way than we have known in the past, namely the whim of a Reboot Officer, we will have Justice.

This land of mine would not tolerate treason, nor zealots, nor Knights who care not if they put the sword to a Dasarian in front of a child...

For those Dasarians who embrace freedom and tolerance and would hear me out and follow in my steps, my plan goes something like this:

1. Form a Town Watch or Royal Guard that will take over the police duties of the village and Dasar

((This will be a civic force that will act as police in place of the redboots. I expect this to be a major point of contention. The Watch or Guard or whatever it's called will be made of willing Dasarians who can serve the Law and find middle ground, putting religous beliefs to the side while they serve the greater needs of Dasaria. This means that moderate Nergals would be allowed in. But... In the interest of balance, I would hope for one dwarf for every elf, one Mardukian for every Nergal... That sort of thing.))

((The REdboots, under Kurich, reluctantly took on those responsibilities of policing but their history suggests they have a lack of confidance on the part of the people (I may have helped that opinion - heh) and a new start might help things out. Raef's refusal to accept Dasarians of certain sects weakens support for them as enforcers of the Law, so I'm very strongly of the opinion that we need an alternative. ))

((I will not seek command the Guard, although I would hope to see that there is some oversight and a procedure where the laws are fairly enforced. I'm not sure what the precedent is... Perhaps it's something like a mayor (the Council) presiding over the local police (the Guard). The police don't take orders directly from the mayor or city council as it were, but they can be fired and removed by that council, so there's an inherent symbiotic relationship between the two... One needs the other to enforce it's rule, and the other serves at the pleasure of the government.))

2. Institute the Courts. This is where cases will be tried. We already have one man willing to be a Magistrate. In addition there will be need for people to step forward to play Defense Councilors and Prosecutors, and the Guard will be there as security...

((My hope here is to remove judgement duties from the police, put it in the courts, foster a new RP outlet and ultimately make a better breed of criminal with some good RP in the game somewhere besides on Popper's Rock))

I will not be a judge.

3. Reinvigorate the Council as a legislative body, overseeing the general running of the government in lieu of the Return of a King. Should the King return, I would hope he would have some use of his Council... either as legislators or Seneschals aiding the running of the government ni his name

4. Broker a peace between the Church of Nergal and Dasaria whereby they are given their own territory to act as a buffer between us and the Talon. They would act as gatewarders for departed souls, and provide ground for the departed to be inhumed according to their beliefs and final wishes. I would propose we retake Ravenwatch for this.

5. Form active Army units (without police power) that will make regular forays and attacks on Talon positions. This may be the venue in which the Redboots survive.

((I will not command an army, although I may form a unit to give aid... in much the same way any medieval lord would be required to muster troops for country and king in time of need. ))

6. Put an end to civil unrest and the sort of rebllious anctics and zealous behavior that's driving us to Civil War. To do that, We need a strong Council, with the Laws enforced by a competent, fair Guard, and a nuetral Court where cases will be heard.

We cannot achieve this by the sword that Raeflin and his allies wield... If you are not one of their targets yet, ask yourself when you will be... They are blind to the strengths and potential tha I see in the rich tapestry of colors and hue that make up the Dasarian Standard...

And I am taking up that Standard, waiving the banner, and going to war...

I had hoped to fight the Varanites, but I will repel invaders and tyrants, foriegn and domestic... I will no longer hear the words of those who first cry they will defy the Council and the Law and then when they are graciously handed lawlessness cry again that they are beset by villains, thieves and assassins...

You vex me, you hypocrits, harbingers of hate, zealots and rebels... you vex me and you give me no option but to raise voice and blade against you...

I waive the banner of Dasaria overhead... and call all that can see the middle ground to rally to the Cause... we are not welcome on the "high" ground of the pious and self righteous who defy us and refuse to submit to the Laws and Treaties we know to be good... so we will find a new ground for them... and in that ground give them shallow graves.

I hear your words... and I CHOOSE... I CHOOSE a Free Dasaria !

OOC - I'm not offended at all. I don't expect anything to really happen here until the DMs decide what to do. But you do illustrate my point quite well... While I argue for balance and unity and a middle ground of equal representation the Mardukians play with such a narrow, one dimensional quality that I feel like I have to keep stirring them up. If you want a territory comprised of all Lawful Good characters, I echo your own words Jimmy... That's incredibly stupid and It'll never happen. You guys can play for a totalitarian state, but I'm going to play your nemesis. Actually, I'd be all for designating an area solely for LGers... but not the village or the city. You guys can all cram together our on Spider Isle or take the lease on Kracc's Castle.

You want a free Daris, Nobby Underfoot of the Council of Lords? If I read correctly, you want your version of Daris to come through? Does it, by any chance, have anything to do with your recent criminal activities in the past month, after the invasion of Daris?
Arrest Report

Lord Nobby Underfoot, Esq., Niles, and Remy Overhead were all arrested (killed) for crimes against me.

I was working on the barracks when I was approached by an elf by the name of Celairistennen. He told me he had witnessed Nobby steal from Sergeant Alav Kenners. He also said that Niles had attacked Sergeant Kenners as well. He also believed they were stealing from him. They were constantly approaching him even though he was running away and asking them to stop. ((Celairistennen is fifth level and his inventory is full of crafting stuff. I don't know if they actually stole from him.)

When I arrived in the village I immediately had a potion of healing stolen from me by Nobby. While I was trying to catch Nobby, Niles attempted to steal from me. So, I whispered words of death to Nobby, killing him. I then held Niles and killed him. Remy Overhead then cast a couple of spells at me (something like flame strike). The bear had him for lunch.

Had Lord Nobby lost his mind?
~Arrest Report~

Nobby n' Niles tried to sink their hands into my pockets. I gave them the finger, along with various other spells. Then they tried it again. Clearly, they show no respect even for ME! I can understand their incident with Alav, but this is unforgivable.
*** ARREST REPORT *** (Kinda)

Sorry for the lateness, I'm afraid I've been very busy as of late.

I approached the town proper at the advice of Talakon Dancien. Sergeant Kennars was also on scene, but I had to report to another disturbance so I took over.

Kisanth and Merdock were locked in a battle, I ordered both of them to stand down. After a moment, Kisanth stood back, yet Merdock kept up the fight. I approached Merdock, drew my sword and attempted to restrain him.

Soon he was taken down and arrested by myself, Lietuenant James Croaker and Sergeant Alav. From what I recall, Niles struck Alav with a bolt, which we then reacted by promptly arresting Niles. In doing so, Lord Nobby attacked me from behind with another crossbow bolt, we took him down and held the three halflings together and began interrogation.

I have no idea why Kisanth and Merdock were fighting. But the Guards were assaulted by Niles and Nobby respectfully because of the new law, "Revenge". They cleverly took the grafiti'd Law sign infront of Gnomish which was patriotically painted over to read, "Rebuild, Rearm, Revenge" to his own uses.

They were kicked out of town for the remainder of the week for their crimes.

-Raef

PS: Lord Nobby is a Councilor, and I feel that him, as well as us, should be more responsible and therefore reprimanded to a great degree for any law breaking. Thoughts?
You speak of reforming the land for a just and organized rebound to Varana's invasion, and yet your prior actions speak otherwise. I can't trust you to lead the way to a free and just society of Daris, and those reports are reasons why.
NebUnderfoot wrote: Yes, we should be ashamed... Ashamed to harbor zealots and hypocrits like yourself... Time and time again you open your pox ridden lips with lies and slander... "The Council is inactive and ineffective...?"
The council is inactive, three lords out of how many seats? 12? That's a horrible ratio for activity. Do the math.
Raeflin does not write his thoughts in the Council Journal, he does not grace us with his presence when we schedule to meet and confer... We have tried to arrange an open audience with the People to hear you all and Raeflin sat quiet, stalling us at every turn.

I have now? I have been as active as possible, Underfoot. I've made almost as many replies as you and Palequine with regards to Council matters. During that time I had a Brigade to re-organize.
Beautiful command of the english language, however incorreclty it's being manipulated. The Brigade in not above the law, and any who breach it are dealt with as any other citizen - harsher even. We've removed men and women from our Brigade for breach of law and protocol. Our oath is important to us.
A peasant wench who failed and fled the Council thinks she can speak the will of the King ? Oh, I find you amusing.
The Council has nothing to do with the king, it is not royalty, it never has been and it never will be. The Council, as is the Brigade, a service to the people. A reminder of who we are.
There are two visions for Dasaria... The one being presented to us now is that of rule of the sword...
Describe Daris before Martial Decree. You'll find it very similar to what you've just described, except the hand that held the sword was infact thieves and criminals. I seek to put an end to that.
This world of mine will would have a Guard that is comprised of Dasarians who can serve the Law justly without regard to race, religion or creed...
I have never nor will I ever oppress those of race or religion. The undead fall under neither of those categories.
This world of mine would have a court with Magistrates who will hear cases brought before them... The accused would have Counsel, the Sate would have Prosecutors, and in a better way than we have known in the past, namely the whim of a Reboot Officer, we will have Justice.
Sure, I'm all courts and magistrates. I question you though, when will we have time to preside over every single case? The Redboots have handled the law professionally and with great accuracy. Palequine had drafted two offenses, type one and type two. Each would be handled differently, one by a court and one by the Redboots. Major and minor crimes.
This land of mine would not tolerate treason, nor zealots, nor Knights who care not if they put the sword to a Dasarian in front of a child...
We're close on this one Nobby, but I'd like to include "Rotting shambling corpses of soldiers you once knew paling the cheeks of children and installing fear into farmers and merchants alike."

Don't forgot that crossbow bolt you planted in my back. I think Sal was watching.
Raef's refusal to accept Dasarians of certain sects weakens support for them as enforcers of the Law
Again, let me point out I have not opporessed those of different religion nor race. The Undead fall under neither.
We cannot achieve this by the sword that Raeflin and his allies wield... If you are not one of their targets yet, ask yourself when you will be...
My "targets" are Varanites and criminals. I want the Undead out of town for fear of our children and our townspeople, but they are hardly my targets.
They are blind to the strengths and potential tha I see in the rich tapestry of colors and hue that make up the Dasarian Standard...
I wouldn't be here toiling for years in the Brigade trying to keep order and law together if I didn't care for the people I had sworn to protect. I have always protected my people, I will continue to do so, your lies dishonour the work we've done and I'm disgusted.
And I am taking up that Standard, waiving the banner, and going to war...
I was told once that there are things worth fighting for, and things that simply aren't. You claim to fight oppression, fight tyranny, fight dictatorship.

I claim to fight the same thing, but those traits lie in the heart of chaos himself, handed down into the hand of theives and murderers.

Lord Nobby Underfoot, you are a thief and the leader of the 'Ling Death Squad. While I respect your time spent in Dasaria fighting for her, you have a past of crime and continual defiance and disrespect of the Redboots. I am not surprised you'd be the first to strike out at us.

If people follow you, may the gods help them. I fear that they'll only be recieved by lies and deciet of a failing Lord of the Council.

So, make your choice Dasaria. The Law of the Redboot Brigade that has proven itself unbiased and strong in Dasasrian spirit, or Lord Nobby Underfoot, who with records as long as my arm makes promises that seem similar to our own, yet lie within his hands rather then yours.
