I fight upon the side of Goodness and Law, hearing the statements expressed by the Lords of this land I am forced to ask do you?
Reading thru the posted minutes of the first council I was appalled by this statement "Law is Law -- not good or evil", and more appalled by the lack of responce by any of the appointed Lords.
Moral Law IS Good.....Immoral Law IS evil!!!!
I am a lawful citizen, and I will and do follow all moral laws. Passing ANY law that in any way supports or protects those that commit atrocities against Human/Dwarven/Elven/Orcish/Halfling/et al kind is immoral and thus becomes an immoral law. Destroying life in order to enslave the the fallen is EVIL. Allowing those that do or support this protection under the law is EVIL.
A vote was cast the question being is evil illegal....the majority vote was no....Discussion was raised that evil isn't illegal only evil acts...hmm...doesn't multiple evil acts make one evil and thus make supporting and being evil a crime. I think so....If I supported the Varanite cause and cheered when they win, If I supported Nergals quest to enslave a world of undead, If I raised not a finger to defend Good and Law...I would be evil and if I commit no act of Theivery or Murder I am protected under the law. I ask you, would you have me in your clan, at your table, alone with the children of Dasaria?

I find all this sick and untterly disturbing. I AM EVIL. But I also live and make my home in Daris. I get a title everyone hates me, I get yelled at and told I am not welcome in town. I am threatened on a daily basis. All because my master happens to be Nergal.
I don't know if anyone remembers this or their closed minds just blocked out the fact that I stood with all of Daris countless time against the oncoming tides, of Varanites, their minions and dragons, fighting and giving every ounce of my blood to protect Daris and its people.
I walk into town now, to see how Bearis is doing, or to chat with Popper, or some other old friend, and I end up having to defend myself for countless hours. I could just walk away, but I am appaled that I am being treated this way.
I joined Nergal for one reason...POWER the power to to have an army at my back, a huge army of undead that I can use to destroy the Varanites, to wipe their very ilk from this land...I will not rest till every last Varanite Man, woman, and child has been oblitorated. The way I see it is every Varanite that fall to my blade is another bloody recruit in my army.
I have many friends in Daris, many friends that can't even speak to me anymore. If they do they are branded Negeralite's just for talking to me. I listen to countless speeches about how Marduk SHALL HAVE HIS CITY. I am scoffed at, and recently, a very old paladin friend of mine, was treated terribly because he served jjustice where hit needed to be served, someone openly murdered someone, he jailed them and because the victim happened to follow Nergal, my friend was treated like shite. I saw the look on his face when he did it, he was going against everything inside him doing this deed, and I felt bad for him. But he was obaying the law.
And as far as this damned city goes...damnit...who cares about Dasar, can't you see whats happening, we are all so damned concentrated on this usless track of land, that the Varanites could walk in and take Daris unhindered cause we are all to busy doing our selfish gods whim. I always though cities were for people...not gods.
I love Daris, I made my home there, I left my elvish heritage to pledge my life to this town, and now I am spit at everyday.
I ask you this...I have a title, I am Warlord of Nergal's forces everyone knows that...but what about all those evil people who come to Daris and don't openly admit it? Why do they get to walk the streets unmolested? They are just as evil as I, yet they don't have the fortitude to come out and say it. So they walk free while I worry if I am going to get voted out of my own home. I have given blood sweat and tears for this town, and now you all throw it back in my face. I have my true friends, they stand with me even though I made a choice to join an unpopular god....how long before your fear of evil turns into evil? I believe religious persecution is not one of those..."good guy" things.

Well put Drake you already know what I think on this subject just because you have a different belief you shouldn't be followed around town by do gooders and jobsworthy gaurds. I stood up for you the other night when you were surrounded in town and it looked like it was gona get nasty. Although I am certain you can look after yourself you were getting seriously out numbered and I agree the Redboots should be hunting low life thieves not heroes like yourself. As long as you are not murdering innocents in town I will class you as my equal in town. The Lords will have difficulty on uniting in a truely Lawful Good resolution as thank Ki they are not all Lawful Good. If the battle for Dasar does errupt many of us not interested will get dragged in to conflict and some might not choose the side of the Redboots ( as they might see them as the aggressors and cause of this battle ). The Truce must hold as it the only way of all the factions to survive, as Shadow put it there is no point cutting of his sword arm. He has seen sense and perhaps others haven't.

One thing and one thing only I have issue with here.
The Redboots are not the army of Marduk. We are the guards and defacto police of Daris and New Dasar. That said, our role is one of neutrality. We uphold the laws as put forth by the council without bias toward good or evil. It is not for us to pick and choose who we pursue based on their faith. If the law is broken, the perpetrator will be apprehended, good or evil. As has been seen in these forums, Kurich has already had the unpleasant duty of striking down a fellow paladin for an attack on Nergal's followers in Daris.
That is not to say that members of the brigade don't have their own personal leanings on these issues. But those feelings are just that - personal. It does not change the fact that the Redboots are a neutral faction. The law of the council is our duty and command. We will directly support neither Marduk nor Nergal, nor any other god. We are not crusaders or inquisitors.

I was jailed for breaking an immoral law that my conscience as well as every fiber of my being thinks is wrong. I have also been called a fallen paladin for doing so, but the way I see it evil now rules Daris and fights those who try to uphold a morally good society!
Tell me Dasarians what kind of world we live in where the followers of Nergal are greeted warmly and the good defenders of the city are nearly driven out for being "blind, reckless and narrowminded". Telling someone they are narrowminded because they have the strength of conviction in their ideals is a poor defense for your own inaction in this crisis.
As for Drake you have your reasons for following Nergal. Our actions always have consequences and you allying with Nergal has gained you the ire of people like me. If you question why we hate you for what you are, then perhaps you need to look beyond your selfish motivations and try looking at it from our perspective of what kind of god you represent! Do not stride into town riding on your past heroics and expect me to overlook the fact you are now evil, I am sorry but you chose this path for yourself not I or anyone else.
And for Tabor, I wish you would wake up DRUID! You speak of balance and tolerance which is in accordance with your beliefs but in case you didn't notice friend the balance is greatly upset and you my friend have totally missed this! Did you also miss the fact that a fellow druid STOOD WITH ME and helped me strike down the evil that was Kravos and Azrael?! Narial remarked how the balance was upset and acted accordingly. So far all I see the high druid is sitting on his rump talking about balance and tolerance instead of acting to restore that balance! You are my friend Tabor and we have slain many enemies together, but now it is time to stand against the evil friend, worry not your actions will only help to RESTORE the balance. Nergal is amassing a huge army of undead, which by the way we elves FROWN upon and find to be abominations! I hardly see how an army seventy times larger that the defenders of Daris is of a balancing nature!
The minions of Nergal (and any other obviously evil people) are hereby under notice that I will do everything I can to derail your plans, plots fun gatherings and picking of flowers! It makes fugitives of your defenders and a mockery of a good and just society! Hear your concience and fight the evil friends for the forces of Nergal know you are bound not to act and will take every advantage of this situation. Nobody said the fight against evil was easy and I urge you to make the right choice and join me in arms! Drekkan, paladins alone are not the sole keeper of ideals we just tend to be a bit more vocal about them, indeed I am sure the followers of Nergal also have a few ideals which they won't publically discuss.
A paladin seeks to uphold GOOD first above all. There is such a thing as evil and immoral laws. Just because something is a law does not mean it is a just and good law. Only trecherous villans create laws that benefit evil and I am arguing that a law that protects evil in the town is an unjust law that does not conribute to a fair and morally good society.
Take this example; A law is passed in Daris that you must pay 90% of your income in taxes and and provide your first born child as a sacrifice to your city council for dire and evil reasons. Now this has been made a law and passed in the council. A paladin who helped to enforce or over look this law would not be able to claim him/herself one for very long. This is an extreme example but one that was shown to me by the High Priest early in my training.
You see not all laws are good, and Paladins must protect good first, and change the law if it is bad. Upholding evil laws does not make good moral character as Berek pointed out.
I guess the evil ones will have to try a little harder in their plot to divide us.
And as for you shadowy one, I regret that some chaos must follow while the unscrupulous law is overturned but a greater good will come of it, far more than protecting your blasted hide! Sometimes the only way to affect change is to take up arms, sadly diplomacy has only benefited the evil in Daris.

If the same folk that you now revile had not shown their faith to you, you would still support and defend them. As it is, they support Daris and fight our common enemy.

Lets say, as it has been stated here, we abolish evil in our town. Now evil is no longer in Daris, and when it is found it is destroyed. Next to come will be the ones that are neutral. You do not follow these blind ideals, you are not truely good! Therfore you MUST be evil, and if not that, one step removed. Next will be the Chaotic Goods! You do not conform to MY IDEA of Lawful Good! There for YOU are one step removed from EEEEVIL!!
Is what I stated there true? No, it is a hypothetical situation. But is it really that far fetched? No again. Watch how zealous you become, or pretty soon Daris will be a town of Inquisision and intolerance. I have lived a long time in Daris, a heck of alot longer than most. We have always let actions be judged, not beliefs.
Again, we are loosing site of our true enemy; the Varanites.. We do this much longer and there will be NO Daris!

Lets say, as it has been stated here, we abolish evil in our town. Now evil is no longer in Daris, and when it is found it is destroyed. Next to come will be the ones that are neutral. You do not follow these blind ideals, you are not truely good! Therfore you MUST be evil, and if not that, one step removed. Next will be the Chaotic Goods! You do not conform to MY IDEA of Lawful Good! There for YOU are one step removed from EEEEVIL!!
Is what I stated there true? No, it is a hypothetical situation. But is it really that far fetched? No again. Watch how zealous you become, or pretty soon Daris will be a town of Inquisision and intolerance. I have lived a long time in Daris, a heck of alot longer than most. We have always let actions be judged, not beliefs.
Again, we are loosing site of our true enemy; the Varanites.. We do this much longer and there will be NO Daris!
