Druids Grove

Post by adam »

Heard about the new druids grove coming up. I know I'm very excited to see it, as I'm sure all the other druids on the server are.

I'm just wondering if there is a way to add a druid spell or special ability to recall to the grove? Set limits on it so it can't be used in combat, so many times per day, or whatever to prevent it from being abused.

I don't know what kind of content the grove is going to contain or if adding this would throw something out of balance. Just thought it would be a neat little addition to the druid class that allows them to "go home" without having to walk accross the world .. ;)

Sounds like an interesting concept... though from what I know of the Grove its also for Rangers, so they'd have to be included in the deal.

'course Silverwind be the best person to get info about this from, it is his little area of the world.

Perhaps it could be an item that's coded like resting, so that it can only be used outside of combat situation (dunno if that's possible, but its an idea). Also, being an item would allow those who have preformed significant aid for Nature and the Balance (for instance Mitch or any number of the folks who'd been involved in the entire Dark Druid story over the past week) could use it to visit...

I dunno, just some thoughts.

My piece of valuable information for the day; you are correct. It's for Rangers and Druids.

Cheers, heheh.

I know I was right. I got that bit of info from Silverwind himself when we visited the Grove as a reward for beating the Dark Druids...

Hense part of my opinion it should be an item, many of those involved in that quest were not Druids or Rangers, but were basically invited back whenever they felt like it...

Ok ... Well, after thinking about it for awhile perhaps the druids in Daris could pass out a quest starting at low level. Have you do something to add nature, etc, etc ... After the quest is completed you either get an item or get flagged. The item could be used 1pd, must be out of combat, etc and summons you to the druids grove.

Or have the character get flagged where they can talk to the druids in Daris and get transported to the grove, or perhaps given a token that can be used at the transporter right infront of them that sends you to the grove?

Just some thoughts ...

As with the ideas in another forum topic on Wizard Towers, rapid teleportation about the world is not something I would generally agree with. If it is to be so, then there should be a chance of failure with dire consequences - like death. Teleportation is powerful magic and thus a 10% failure rate would be quite normal.

However, if Druids and Ragers would like to reside there, maybe a spawn point could be added with a NPC just like in Dasar and with Morin.

My 2 cents.

The druid grove I dont think is going to have 3 places that you can teleport to to get to places faster... If i heard right about the wizard guild towers...I like this idea for rangers and druids

The idea is to get to the grove without hiking however long it will take to get there (I have no idea how long that hike will actually be, seeing as I got DM ported to and from it when I visited). This would basically be a way to go to (and perhaps from) the grove.

Best way to go about it would be an item that flags you for the Druids in Daris to allow them to port you there, and something there to port you back to Daris. That way you couldn't abuse the system or use it to escape bad situation.

And if it is a simple tolken (like the Cutter's Ring or something), that shouldn't be to hard to code.

Currently I am working out the final details regarding transport to and from the grove. The Great Grove will be opened to those who are druid, rangers and friends of the land - the Great Grove is created for those who are interested in playing the role of a druid or ranger (with other classes to be added, tentatively) in a true Dasarian context, as it has been written for Dasaria.

That being said, I have been toying with the idea of one-way transportation and how to implement it to ensure it is not grossly overpowered or out of Dasarian context. The Great Grove, as has been discussed in game, is located in the same portion of the world as is Dasar... however, any teleportation-style workings will need to be discussed with the DM team, and will not be workable in *any* case upon the immediate opening of the Grove.

If anyone has any questions regarding druidic things or things regarding the Grove, I'm more than happy to answer questions and listen to suggestions on things that might be good to implement or look into.

Sounds good Cirran!

The reason I bring this up is because of my view of the druid based on the way I've played in DnD and various other games. I've always felt like a druid should have a quick way back to their grove since, to me anyways, it's like their home and escape from the rest of the world. It's the place they'd give their life to protect and a place to recharge their druid batteries ... Druids are powerful allies to the world and it seems to be like they would have a way to quickly return home without hiking over miles of area. =)

Probably the only complaint I have against Dasaria is it's totally devoid of any means of quick travel. I don't hold this against the DM's because they've done such a wonderful job with the world, but in a world as huge as Dasaria I feel like I don't get to see so much because it takes so long to get anywhere. I'd love to be able to travel to Dasar on a regular basis to see the city and things around it, but it takes so much time to get there that by the time I arrive I'm short on time and don't get to do much running around. I'd hate for this to be true about the Druid's Grove since I personally have been waiting so long for something like this to roll out. I'd love to be able to set it as a spawn point for my druids, since I doubt any one of Dasaria's druids would be sleeping in the Blue Boar. =)

Keep us posted on the Grove Cirran! I'm very excited to see it, even if I do have to hike a 100 miles to ge ttheir the first time. :D

It is a very nice zone, very pretty frankly, I'm sure you'll love it... *G*

I can't wait to visit there with Falson again... he might end up using it as a retreat from the rest of the world from time to time.

Not sure if this is possible or willing to be done, but it is an idea.

How about certain trees in Dasaria giving access to the grove. Lets say your in the eaves and you wish to enter the grove. You locate one of the trees, then by using your druidic powers you enter the tree which takes you to the grove. Now the catch is, once you leave the grove you return to the same spot you entered, thus taking care of any traveling exploits. .
