I have to say... I still think my idea hits both nail son the head.. J4 - i think your spot on the money - people want the fun of pulling that great item.. yes some people (guilty as charged..) will spend a fair amount of time some where in order to find that one special item to make (in their eyes) character complete.
On the flip side I think the trades are great.. people get some good chances to meet and rp and help each other.. so... as I said why not set the trades towards items such as bags ect.. people are gonna want them.. people are gonna use the trades to get them.. and not just bags but wands.. potions.. scrolls.. arrows.. that way you get the best of both.. a trades that will get used.. and loot that means people will still be happy hunting.

Hi there J4,
You are quite correct, so maybe there is a way to combine the two.
I was thinking a Stone of Enchantment that you have to go find from a chest and then a little addition to the crafting where you can use that Stone of Enchantment and a crafted weapon to turn it into a +2?
It seems it's only really weapons people would like this for, the rest of crafting I dont think should change, but I'd love to help in fixing up some of it's little bugs. I'd also love to help in fixing up some of it's little bugs before anything is considered on making more powerful items.
One thing I'd like to see is that even when something becomes trivial to make, rolling a 1 should still be an automatic failure (IE: you could never become 100% proficient, only 95% - I guess you can see I was a PnP player here
).
Cheers...Redder

I like Astamyre's idea of having rare cards in the chests, but they shouldn't be single use, I'm sure the smith would copy down what is need before he tried to make it
I also like Holly's idea of having tokens of some sort so great smiths can pass on items with there own signature.
I think people want weapons more than armour because all the crafted armour is well out done by a trip to the Anvil, and the +1 with 1d4 fire on a weapon is still a quality weapon.
Slightly off topic here... changing armour appearance, can this be tweaked as I need to roll 24 to make 1 change

Unfortunatly with Items once the description is set it cant be changed unless you change the pallet entry, there is no dynamic changing of this, which makes the tokens or customising of an item to a maker that bit harder, since you cant add to the description, short of using the toolset that is.
There is actually +2 weapons in the current crafting, they are the titanium tiped ones, I have no idea where titanium is though

I have tried my hand at scribing scrolls as well, but to the life of me, ever since the last NWN update, I can't get the chickens to lay any eggs. All they do is look at me stupidly and say something about the sky is falling....

Crafting
OOC Disc
I based my character to be a blacksmith to forge the weapons she currently uses. I can make +1 weapons from iron and a katana made from bronze +2 to dex. anyone who is or was a smith knows thats alot of mining\smelting just to reach my average level. Everyone knows there is just one weapon anvil:)
I dont want the crafting system to be any better than it was. I just want my smith\smelt lvls returned-If possible:) If not then thats ok to. But wouldnt it be cool to make at least a weapon to +2 +3 - Your character carries the weapons that they create. There are no limits to making the ulitmate power\uber weapon that most desire. With an enchanter and some DM intervention anythings possible. Rp thing *wink *wink
The crafting I thought was cool even if it didnt lead to the best items in the game. Those bags people make are great:) I still have a +1 iron katana in my iventory to prove my status. Reinstate so I can reach the mechanic limit. If +2 is the limit then I'm still crankin out +2 weapons:) If +3 is the limit then that IMO uber enough to satisfy any build.
Thats my nonsense for ya. I say if you dont like to craft or feel that crafting is worthless - stay away from it and let us fools who do enjoy it *Laughs If you do then there must be a good reason why your doing it:)

i dont know how they did this on AVLIS but there the crafters can make custom names in gameAstamyre wrote:Unfortunatly with Items once the description is set it cant be changed unless you change the pallet entry, there is no dynamic changing of this, which makes the tokens or customising of an item to a maker that bit harder, since you cant add to the description, short of using the toolset that is.

(mind you crafters are highly valued there since you need to spend thousands of hours crafting and RP training to get even close to becoming a good smithy... )
any hoot, they have figured a way to label items after creation
(i might be wrong but i remember the master smithys there using modified DM wands to change the name)
