Familiar sometimes attack me in Darkness

Several times now, in fact 4 of em, two yesterday, my familiar turned on me, attacking my character. I think this is due to the fact that he sometimes gets caught in some of my spells, which is not surprising since like last time I used Evard's Black Tentacles, and he ran right into the midst of them to attack the enemy. As soon as he took damage he turned around and came after me. I dont know if this is a server bug or a generic NWN bug, but it is very very bad for soloing summoners. It means 1) either I cant use my stronger spells that hit mulitple enemies or 2) I cant use my familiar. Any help would be great, thanks.

Just look at it like this. What would you do if you were a panther and you would get fireballed by your master? I know what I would do...

my summons dont attack me, do you cast protection on them from what you're flinging at em?

But I never fireballed him....maybe a few scintillating spheres, lightning bolts, and um, the tentacles

But there isnt much you can do to prevent it, since they always seem to run towards the enemy, and by the time you get the spell off they are in the thick of it. But this is what I find interesting...I've seen other characters hit my familiar with spells and he never went ballistic on them.

I do sometimes, usually resistance, mage armor, and stoneskin.

has anything been fixed with this ? because my cat keeps attacking me when i cast darkness ... i wouldnt mind so much , but i do cast ultra vision on her ... it also happens when i order her into darkness i didnt cast directly upon her ... i surpose she is just afrade of thr dark , the big frady cat

Interesting, I haven't had that problem. Alteration is my forbidden school, so I cant cast ultravision on it, but when I group with rogues, if they have a way to cast it via a ring or whatnot I use darkness. My cat will either try to attack the enemy or will just move outside the area of affect. He wont attack if hit with lightning bolt either, just so far seems to be scintillating sphere and evards black tentacles.

Well, we never changed anything about the AI or anything at all regarding henchmen or familiars, so what we are dealing in this instance with is bioware-out-of-the-box. However the server is set on hardcore difficulty level I believe- and I think this may be a result of that.

My advice: be sweet to your pets and dont send them into dark places or areas with wiggly tentacles..

Could you change his tactics when he turns on you? Maybe tell him to go after the nearest enemy.

Not if, suddenly, you ARE the nearest enemy! You might want to hot-key "Stand your ground" and see if that works. If it does, the familiar might aggro who ever hits it next, or a new target that has become "nearest".

Lastly and certainly leastly, you can always do an emergency unsummon.

Jeh, how about some code for summoned creatures:

if ((target = master) AND (self = NOT Confused)) then

target = NewTarget()

endif

GOD, I read that as: " Could you change his tactics when he turns you on?"

And like in a previous post, just make 'em withstand the AoE spells!
