Guild of paladins
I stated in an earlier post that a guild of paladins is direly needed. It could serve as a way of implementing certain "rules" through a code that the paladins in the faction will follow as well as bringing paladins together for some good roleplay. Being a new (and often senior) paladin these days is hard. The "Lone boat out on the open sea" is a feeling I often felt and can still feel at times. What should I do in this situation? What is the good and lawfull thing to do? I plan to make this guild a patch of land where you can find all the information you need and also find friends and people who think like your character does. Learning from the elders, so to speak.
Another thing that I belive would add to this idea would be the ability to rise in rank from an initiate to a fully fledged paladin. A series of tests could be conducted to test the paladin's mental and physical state, but also seing how good his/her character understands and operates within the code. This does not nessisarily have to work in time with the levels the paladin gains, but you would at least have to be of a somewhat high level to pass the last test.
The code, itself, would be put together by a set of paladins in coalition with a few DMs. Together we can help the new Paladin Players to better understand the essense and spirit of the Holy Warior and perhaps even encourage more people into this very special class. While it may seem as a chore at first, it is also one of the most rewarding (from my experience) and fun when you feel like you are a fully functional paladin.
If you are intrested in joining, please PM me so I could get a fair estimation of the intrest. Without players, no guild.
DMs, feel free to PM or Post in this thread what you think of the idea.
I think Dasaria needs this, do you?
PS : This is just a quick draft from what has been brewing in my head for a long time now. If you feel you can improve on the idea, do not be afraid to post it. DS

It would be interesting but there are many ways to skin a cat or play a paladin (not sure which is more fun). I don't doubt there will be some friction between the various Paladins with varying interpretations of what it means to be Lawful Good...especially between those who agree with your interpretation and join your guild and those who do not.
To tell the truth...when i made the Kingseekers, it was all concieved IC pretty much, and i didn't want to exclude anyone who wanted to be a part of the "Good guy" faction...but the Kingseekers are striving for knighthood, and have a solemn vow, and is just the place for Priests, Paladins and Champions, as well as other characters seeking to battle evil. We have shrines in the Tower of the Sword to Utu, Girru, Ki, Ishtar, Nanna-Sin, and Marduk! I think the Paladins of the land would find everything they want with the Kingseekers, and we are established, with an honorable In-Game history (Which I was told four months ago would be added to the "World Background" section).
I think if Meldvion or anyone wants to start a paladin's order, I would whole-heartedly endorse and support it. Even if I find it a little redundant, the Kingseekers could use some allies!

KingSeekers are no paladins guild. They are different then what Meldvion is trying to raise here. Perhaps the vows and ideas seem the same, but the ideology -and- it's members will be different.
It will consist only out of paladins who debate and discuss the right way to take on evil in the lands. That may be what the Kingseekers do too, but it is not the same imho.
So I don't really think it's redundant. And I think it's a great idea.

I think its a good idea and one that will add depth to the paladin class. I have to admit that when I started playing one I found it hard going at times. But it is a very rewarding class to play rp wise. And having tests and guidlines will help alot I think.

I think a Paladin guild is exactly what Dasaria needs. Evil is running rampant and chaos around the land is becoming more and more. No one man can deal with this, what's the best thing to do? Paladin's from all over the land band together as a single strike force against the evil that holds sway over these lands. It makes perfect sense. This is sorta like the KS but I feel they're more lawful and monarchy kissing sorta guild and the problem is that it's not filled with virtuous, pure and honourable members. Many are, but others certainly aren't (Alav, Elorian).
The Paladin guild most likely won't hold the queen in such high esteem as the KS. True law and pure good shall be their virtues, nothing is as pure as a Paladin's heart and intentions. They won't make a deal with undead (KS did), undead shall be smoten with supreme predjudice. I'm liking the idea of a Paladin guild more and more now

The only fly in the ointment is the IC one I can see. Paladins are devout to their god a single god. Any follower of another god is an infidel. A paladin of Utu and a Paladin of Marduk should not get on just as much as a Paladin of Nergal would not.
I think a guild of Utu or a Guild of Marduk a good player run and active church to battle the evil Nergal church may be a better way to go.
I could then see this new church a bit like the templars and the KS more like the Texas rangers an independant Queens army of champions which is what i think they are now anyways.

A pure and true paladin make no deals with undead as they're abominations of life itself and epitomise exactly what Paladins are against. Undead shouldn't even get a chance for a word to come out of their mouthes as they'd be smoten before they can say anything.BeyondRedemption wrote:I don't necessarily agree with that. However I'm sure everyone has their own views on how Paladins should be played...
There's no such thing.Ironchicken wrote:Paladin of Nergal
So you're saying that Holly and Kurich wouldn't get along just as much as they wouldn't get along with a Blackguard of Nergal?Ironchicken wrote:A paladin of Utu and a Paladin of Marduk should not get on just as much as a Paladin of Nergal would not.
I don't think so.
EDIT: Bah, I accidentally edited this post instead of quoting it, however thanks to ironchicken for quoting it all... phew...

I think it is an awesome idea. I need to remake Tilirinn, as he was a pretty bad build, and for ages now I have been thinking either as a better battle priest, or as a paladin. I have been thinking long and hard over this, but I think I will go with the paladin idea. Main reason is he is pretty much a paladin as it is, with his character and all. And Ive always loved Paladins in stories. This guild sounds like all those cool orders of Paladins that are in great legends and stuff.
I still dont know what direction I will go, but I am leaning towards the paladin at the moment. And that was before I read about this guild btw.

Ooc: Like I said Meldvion, you have mine and An'eas full support on this. And I think it will be great.

But there could easily be. A follower of the Lord of the Afterlife whom adopts the principles of LG and unquestioning faith.Jimmy wrote:There's no such thing..Ironchicken wrote:Paladin of Nergal
The paladins of christianity rode half way accross the known world to bash seven shades of the smelly stuff out of the peoples of middle east for worshipping the same god in a different way. The pantheon is not fleshed out. What is the relationship between Utu and Ki? Whatever it is, it is likely to be reflected in the relationship between 2 paladins following those different gods. Pally aint just about smite evil and smite undead. Sure Holly and Fera are likely to get on better than they would with Zenthrax but would they both join the same holy order? I think not.Jimmy wrote:So you're saying that Holly and Kurich wouldn't get along just as much as they wouldn't get along with a Blackguard of Nergal?Ironchicken wrote:A paladin of Utu and a Paladin of Marduk should not get on just as much as a Paladin of Nergal would not.![]()
